The Mountain Race, as it is locally known, was first run in 1960 as part of the village show and every year since 1973 (excluding 2001 foot & mouth). It is a traditional village show fell race, one from the showground to the highest local peak and back.

The race is held each year on August Bank Holiday Monday as part of the Cilcain Show.

The existing format sees the race start & finish by the church and a loop route – up the zig-zags and down the north spur. The course is approx 7.4km and 380m height gain/loss.

The race starts 1pm with registration from 11.00am-12.30pm in the churchyard. Entries online or on day (cash only). Minimum age 15 on 31st December.
